| Richard A. D’Amura, born in Brooklyn, New York, received his B.S. in Finance from Fairfield University in 1998, his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Miami School of Law in 2001, and his LL.M in Securities and Financial Regulation from Georgetown University Law in 2002. He is admitted to practice before the Florida Bar, the New York Bar and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Mr. D’Amura concentrates his practice on complex business, corporate and commercial matters, with his primary focus on securities litigation and arbitration, and professional liability defense. His securities practices focuses on the defense of broker/dealers and brokers in litigation in court and before FINRA Dispute Resolution, including representation of broker/dealers in industry disputes, and the defense of licensed individuals in investigations by securities regulatory agencies. In addition to his securities practice, Mr. D’Amura has extensive experience defending insurance agents and insurance agencies in litigation, as well as numerous matters involving general partnerships and partners, and their obligations under the Revised Uniform Partnership Act. He has also represented some of the Country’s largest insurance companies in litigation and investigations, including defense of fraudulent claims, insurance fraud investigations and the prosecution of civil claims against insurance fraud rings. During his completion of his LL.M degree he interned in the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s Division of Enforcement, Washington, D.C., participating in the investigation and prosecution of many of the high profile SEC investigations of 2002.
While in law school, Mr. D’Amura served on the Editorial Board for the University of Miami Business Law Review, served as Vice President of the Corporate Law Society, and was a member of the American Inns of Court. He received the following awards and distinctions: Alumni Association’s Student Leader Award, Dean’s List, Dean’s Certificate of Achievement Award: Bankruptcy, and Honors: Litigation Skills trial program. He has also spent time on Capitol Hill working at a prominent Washington, D.C. think tank, with direct contact and dealings with senate, congressional and corporate leaders, has tried several cases as a certified legal intern with the Dade County State Attorneys’ Office, and has worked for several major brokerage and investment banking firms.
